Tom Morris is often thought of as the Grandfather or the Father of Golf. His mastery of the game claimed him 4 Open Championships, his battles with Willie Park were legendary, he was the only man to ever beat his mentor Alan Robertson, he was the first greenskeeper, he raised perhaps the greatest golfer that ever lived and he was the true authority on the rules of golf.

One time Old Tom was asked to make a strange ruling. A terrible golfer swiped at his ball and somehow the ball popped straight up and got stuck in the very same man's beard. Tom ruled a one stroke penalty.

I bet whoever voted down on this thinks that golf was invented in April 1997.
