November 4, 2009 Sam Snead goes down in history as having the smoothest swing right? Sam Snead as a boy grooved that tempo by swinging wheaping willow branches. Snead also was a master of Public Relations. Don't buy the idea that he was back country, but he knew that by playing the part that he would endear himself to the fans...something I have to believe Boo does today. Another interesting note...Sam Snead does not have a landmark at Augusta National like his peers Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan even though he had the same success there. Why? It is said that Bobby Jones did not care for Sam Snead. Jones did not care for Snead's crass jokes (which are legendary). Snead also putted croquet style when his putting touch vanished...and it was Bobby Jones who petitioned the USGA to have his style banned. |
