What do you think of the "No women members allowed" at Augusta
Posted on: 11/6/2009 by tina123456
Hi Everyone
I recently tried to include in my ideas some thoughts on the "no women members allowed" rule.
I want a collection of opinions by avid golfers like all of you.
So...care to share your thoughts on this hot topic?

What's the point of a golf course.. to play golf. Therefore, why discriminate?? Ever seen a beach or a public jogging trail discriminate male vs female?? No.. because the purpose is to be utilized..

Well it is a "private" club, but..it has long surpassed its focus as just a private club. Without the Master's it would just be another top notch private club free to do whatever it wanted. Also, without the Masters, I doubt there would be much of anyone asking the questions about its membership rules.
So, its long past time for Augusta to modify its rules. If the members there had much vision, they could modify rules to allow women and then create a really good LPGA major by having the LPGA Masters there.

I agree with heartotexas. Unfortunately, it is a private club so it can exclude whoever or whomever it wants. The Masters is so important that it can dictate whatever rules it chooses because ratings, and MONEY always count in this Country. I love the Masters, therefore, have to tolerate it's rules. However, I am sure that through my ignorance, there is a good and viable reason it is put up with.

Nothing better than seeing a beautiful swing on a beautiful women on the golf course. I always pray for my chance to get paired up with 2 or 3 of the hottest women on the golf course. Co-Ed allllll the way!! August is a "sausage fest" of snobby, narcistic, egotistical members who frolic around in there status-quo thinking they are better than anyone else. Just to shake things up a bit, they should let the top-10 LPGA players play in the Masters. Who knows, if they did that, they may have to see a green jacket be slipped on the shoulders of a women.

Although I do not agree with discrimination based on anything, every private club has their right to accept whomever they want.

Those 300 members represent more wealth than a 3 million member club. I think they'd be okay. Seriously, can't we drop this? While you may agree or disagree with their policies, Augusta doesn't give a sh*t and the fact remains that it's a private club. They are well within their right to set a "no women allowed" policy.

your right, this is america. they have as much of a right to keep it private as the next club does to be co-ed. as much as men only might suckfor the women, it is america and they should have the freedom to keep it that way.

absolutly no private club has the right to accept whoever they want, not on matters based on race, sex or sexual orientation. It doesn't matter if the word "private" is involved. It can hold an interview process but it's acceptance may only be judged on character not any of the above listed catagories.

The problem is "most" golfers. Golfing is full of the most snot nosed wannabe atlhletes you will ever find. The etiquette in mot cases is stupid. The only etiquette that should be accepted is anything having to do with safety other than that everyone should just enjoy themselves.

Let's face it for most of you uppity 50something golfers with your 5 handicaps who belong to private clubs who like to exclude people because they don't care for the particular class they belong to, your not athletes, your weekend warriors and theira a difference and should be ashamed for excluding anyone for any other reason than character. I can understand not wanting a Rodney Dangerfield caddyshack character or a convicted felon but anything other than that you should be ashamed and should understand that their is a certain level of karma that goes on in life and what goes around comes around.

It is tough to join any exclusive club if you call the membership snot-nosed wannabe athletes.
There is something to be said for keeping blue jean wearing slobs out of a private institution. As to no women members, I wouldn't set a club up that way, but I also wouldn't try to go around telling other people what to do with their club.

While I do not support a all male country club, I do support the right for a private club to decide its own membership. There are women's groups that have only women as members, and I think that is equally fine.

If I had a vote as a member, I would vote to include women.

HOWEVER, if you want to throw discrimination charges at Augusta you need to refocus your energy.

Augusta discriminates against all but 300 of its members. If you applied you'd be shot down just as fast as a woman. As a matter of fact you can't even apply.

This matter is just silly in my eyes. If you're looking for a sexual bias you would be more likely to look for a middle class bias or a poor bias.

Even if they allowed a woman...she'd be a rich one...does that help women's rights?

Dunb argument!

whats wrong with blue jeans if you wear a tucked in collared shirt with it. How dare you call someone who wears blue jeans a slob. And guess what the only two correct points being made in all this are that people shouldn't be kept out of private clubs due to anything due to sex, race or sexual preference and second, all you 50something fat slob golfers who ride around in your carts smoking cigars all day are wannabe athletes and barely weekend warriors who can't even bare to walk the course on a nice day.

So tell us how you really feel!!!!
Get cleaned out by an over 50? Or told to stop acting like a jacka$$ by the ranger?

I noticed you don't have your age on your profile, what are you 12? Grow up.

If it is my property, I have a right to keep whomever I want OFF of it, regardless of race, sex, creed, religious or sexual preference.
And yes, I am an over 50 cigar smoking fat slob who rides around in a cart. What's your point?
Should I apologize to the likes of your punk a$$ because I've worked hard all my life to be able to do what I want, when I want, where I want, how I want AND with WHOM I want? Kiss this big fat a$$. I do not owe you nor anyone else anything regardless of race, sex, creed, religious or sexual preference.

I'd say that, quite quickly, this post became legit as a good topic of discussion, typical of what we talk about here on Stracka. So please try and not act out like a jackass. dysangel has been a good participating member of this site for as long as I can remember. You're new and thus subjet to scrutiny, especially given the recent rash of spam deriving from "members" that bear stock Stracka photo's. Please don't act like a hurt teenage girl. Leave that crap out of the forms.
