I am going to breakdown and get a GPS device. I have read many reviews and price does not seem to correlate with function or service. I don't need a video game on the course, just an accurate measurement to the pin. I am thinking the Izzo or IGolf Gps for $99. The Izzo subscription is also only $9.95. Does anyone have any experience with these. I'm finding it hard to invest in a gadget I have not needed to play. I tried to find previous posts on here but haven't found them yet, sorry.

I have owned the IGOLF for three years now and it is perfect for what you are looking for. Nothing fancy but gives me front, center, and back of the green. On most holes it also gives you bunkers, water and end of the fairway. I have not paid a yearly fee since the first year and have most of the courses in South Jersey where I live. I figured when I needed to download more courses I would pay for another year but it hasn't been necessary.

Do you have a blackberry or I phone? If so, Greenfinder or Golflogix is the way to go. No extra device needed.

There was a thread going on a few months back on this subject, <http://www.stracka.com/golf-fo..;
you might want to check it out.

I use the GolfLogix golf GPS service on my Blackberry 8900. For $40/year it's a very good deal and I haven't played a golf course yet that isn't available on the service. My battery doesn't have much left after a round, but I haven't run out of juice during a round either. The graphics quality is very good, measurements are given to front, center and back of green, some hazards, 150-yard market, etc. If I remember correctly, they offer a trial so you can check it out before you buy. The last thing I wanted was another gadget, so this is a pretty good solution for me. Very simple to use; has a couple of quirks, but nothing major.

I like it too except the fonts are so small on the GolfLogix app its hard to read. I've sent in feature request to golf logix to see if they will make it possible to adjust font sizes. I did have a problem acquiring satellites at Castle Hills Golf Club in Lewisville, TX. No gps apps would work on holes 1-6 (tried several). Funny thing is its wide open and I could see horizon to horizon on most of the holes but no bueno on satellites. Worked fine of back nine, but quit when I got back to hole 1. Its like a dead zone there.

Thank you guys. Actually work for phone company so I hate to use the phone if you know what I mean. I have read that cell phones use triangulation from cell sites and that may cause them to be off in accuracy. I don't know if there is any truth to that or merely a marketing ploy. I am going to go to that thread now and read more. Thank you again.

Smartphones with true GPS like blackberry do not use tower triangulation. Mine is accurate to within a yard or less of what cart gps or my SkyCaddie unit shows.
