Anybody notice the recent trend of spammers replying to other spammers in an attempt to make their advertisements look like "dialogue?" Are they all from the same account? Any way to tell?

The General Golf Discussion page is filled almost halfway with spam topics, which pushes real threads back to the second or third page where people might miss it.

I love how all of a sudden new members get excited about a website named firstrankgolf :) ROTFL

Now mind you, this is an interesting trend. I read that since traditional banner ads seldom work anymore (the click-through rate is dismal, less than 1%), marketers now try to push their products directly through website content. We experienced that with the synthetic putting greens for a while. The guy kept posting blogs, videos, photos, etc. to promote his product. In a sense, it worked: I remember the product. But he also ended up alienating some potential buyers because he published too much stuff.

As a former journalist, I'm very afraid of the mix between genuine info and ads. Too many contextual ads would completely kill our trust in customer reviews. Hey, who knows. Maybe I'm paid by the government of Quebec to promote our province's golf courses ;) And you Goynes have shares in a persimmon woods company... LOL.

Bottom line, the rise of spam is a bit scary and I hope Stracka will keep it under control.

You know, everytime I find one of those posts I flag it as spam for the administrators to find. What surprises me though is that amazingly mine is the only flag on there. How are we supposed to keep these guys out unless everybody pounds on them a little. Just ignoring those posts isn't going to do any good, they have to get flagged and banned by Stracka administrators.

Yes I have and also most are selling clubs lower than anyone else. X22 for 200 bucks, Diablo driver for 89. Callaway says there are lots of counterfits out there

Not to get into the conspiracy theory here, but I think that Stracka is actually allowing some of this to happen because they get paid for it. Honestly, I doubt they would have let Mr Artificial putting stuff post so many things without asking him to pay for advertising on Stracka. It completely fooled us at first. We were all giving him thumbs up for posting his stuff instead of flagging it! LOL.

Now Stracka needs to make money, so I don't blame them, but the strategy is a bit dangerous...

I wasn't going to say anything because he does sound sincere. Nevertheless, at some point we should advise that you can only take in so much at one time. What are his scores? Ya see, he has a 75 and a 78. I'd be more than a little pissed if I were being taken for a ride. Seems like when you're shooting in the 70s you've got a lot of this stuff figured out, eh?

I like his questions they are thought provoking and as a relatively new golfer pick up info from others replies.

Have to agree with mickchild, I was just ignoring the SPAM forums; but, then I realized I may be part of the problem, so I started flagging them.
If Stracka doesn't kill their logins then maybe Sylla is right and Straka is getting paid to allow it.
so from this pont forward, I'll flag them. We'll see what happens.

Sylla, you're absolutely right about those guys. At some point somebody pointed out that their messages said they were Stracka Partners. Other than those guys though - who seemed to be pretty open about their intentions - I think most of these underhanded attempts at luring us into their webs are simply sales outfits trying to trick us into visiting their sites.

Hi.

We are working on some new mod/admin tools to make it easier to clean out the spam and combine like-threads.

If you have any other ideas of how we can improve the forums, please post them here.

Kind regards,

Delete those user accounts ASAP It is easy to tell who they are, they do not belong to a handicap group they post no scores and have no profiles. They also mostly have links to sites that sell counterfit gear for cheep cheep

How about being able to flag individual forum posts? Right now we can't do that. We can't flag a person either. So it's hard to let you know when there's an issue.

Also, I don't know if some of these people are allowed by Stracka to advertise for their product (like the artificial putting turf guy), but if it's the case, it needs to be clear.
