do you think a straight putt,( 3,6,9,12,footers ) are harder to putt,than a ( left to right / right to left,breaking putts,what are your thoughts,thank you.

I like left to right putts more because I don't think there is a straight putt you can have. Every putt is gonna have at least a half-inch of movement.

the straigther the putt the easier it is for amateurs, once we have a str8 putt all we have to do is concentrate on the speed, once we have to look at the break plus the speed it becomes harder to make them.

spiko,i somewhat disagrre. the straight putts, need to have,the speed,the line,and putt off the sweetspot.Alot of time when golfers are putting,they hit of the toe,or heel,etc,and the putt is rolling off line.but,i think over time when you master the art of putting,than you have no issues.and i notice that on your stats,it shows that your a good Putter,thanks for sharing

all putts are hard. Speed, grain, break, nerves, sweetspot, etc all come in to play when you putt. especially those 3 footers you need to win the skins that carried over from the previous 2 holes. or when you're playing for millions and that 2 footer can either make you $500,000 or lose you $500,000. |

No, I don't think they are a harder putt, You just have less reasons for missing.

No, I don't think they are a harder putt, You just have less reasons for missing. Yep, the fact is that the only hard part about a straight put is acceptance. I can't do that with consistency for some reason. Another comment talked about a putt breaking a half inch no matter what. Well hell, to me if it breaks a half inch and is longer than 3 or 4 feet, it IS straight! Dave Pelz is a worthy read. You can do everything right and still you have spike marks, ball marks (even repaired), bugs, geese, even the odd stray yak can nudge your ball offline just enough to slip by with just a kiss on the lip. What's the point of all this foolishness? Get your setup right, make your decisions on line and speed, and most of all COMMIT TO IT. Accept that this is the best, and all, that you can do. Send it on its way. Go to your home little ball. I have found that you'll have more fun, less stress, and believe it or not, you'll sink more putts...especially the longer ones.

Don't get too caught up on the total putts per round that Spiko mentioned. It's a good stat, don't get me wrong, but it can be misleading to someone using stats to focus their practice sessions. Take a look at your putts/GIR too. I can one put all 18 holes, but is that an indication of my game or putting prowess if I have taken 8 strokes to get the ball on the fringe of each hole? I am building a stats program that will give us ameteurs the same statistical feedback, both numerically and graphically, that the pros get. The only difference is that you collect your data on a custom score card instead of it being done for you by Shot Link. I plan on putting it on eBay and giving it away on Sracka.

I am building a stats program that will give us ameteurs the same statistical feedback, both numerically and graphically, that the pros get. The only difference is that you collect your data on a custom score card instead of it being done for you by Shot Link. I plan on putting it on eBay and giving it away on Sracka. Oh cool, great idea! I'll try it :) |
