I don't "hate" any lies. I believe that if you "hate" or "dread" a particular lie or situation, then you are beaten whenever you face that lie or situation. I have taught myself to accept whatever situation I have and do my best. I tailor my practice to improve my chances of success whenever I face difficult situations. The lie that gives me the most difficulty is the lie in deep rough when I have a distance more than about 180 yards over water. Golf is a mental game. You have to convince yourself that you can be successful at any given moment. So whenever I encounter a "tough" lie, I determine the play that gives me the best opportunity for success. Sometimes that may mean laying up from 180 yards in the rough. I have worked on my short game to the point that I am very confident that I can get up and down from almost anywhere. Look at some of my scores and I think you will be amazed how often I one-putt. I have one-putted as many as 10 or so times in a round.
I cannot count the number of times I have played with someone that hits his ball into a bunker for instance, and he laments that "I can't play this shot." It's almost guaranteed that he will hit a poor shot because he has convinced himself that he will. Work on your mental game, as well as your irons and putting, and your scores will improve. |

I'm with gsollars on this. It is what it is, play it and learn from it. The only lie I dread is the one behind a tree. I hate having to punch out sideways. :)
Oh, the other lie I hate is playing in scrambles with cheaters that come in with ridiculous scores of 52 or 51. Give me a break, you birdied every hole on the course?? |

Dont particularly hate any lie, but I do dislike downhill lies over 200 yards, as it is very difficult to get a 3 Wood airbone from a severe downhill lie

Only ones that offer no shot toward the pin, especially if that's the result of well struck shot. It's a "fairness" thing I guess. I don't need to get into the debate over expacations of fairness, blah blah blah, it just a deflating event when a good shot stops in such a way as to be severely penalizing.

I had a particular bad lie in a golf tournament this year. I pushed my tee shot into a bunker...the ball stuck into the bank of the bunker under the lip of the grass on the high right side of a bunker on the right.
I had to stand with my back facing the green and hit the ball against the back wall of the bunker. I hit the shot perfect...it hit the back wall and jumped dead left and nearly holed it. I settled for a miracle par. You have to look at every bad lie as an opportunity. The worse position the better the recovery! |

the lie i dread the most is the 1 foot in and 1 out of rhe trap with the ball fried in the sand tucked up under the lip. or the worst lie i ever had was on the high side of the bunker, sitting on a tuft of grass that had the ball suspended in the air literally at least 6 inchs. with 1 foot in the sand 1 foot up on the high side.1st stroke wiffed and the ball fell straight down into the bunker right on the lip, 2nd shot hit the lip and fell back another 2-3feet.3rd shot finally made the green, wish i could say it went in the hole but i think i 2 or 3 putted because of how pissed i was about my fate on that hole.

I hate the shot that got me in there not the lie itself.

For me, the dreaded shot is a downhill, tight lie on wet ground. The tendency is to not hit is crisp and be a little heavy.
