| Took my dog and we made our first hunt this year. My girl 8 years old balck Lab and she can not hear much now. She however was in midseason form. The first bird came in and was an easy shot and as it was flying away with my dog watching it, she then turns and gives me that look of "What is wrong with you? It was right here!!!!!!!!" I made up for that miss and she was on the birds. Every bird that was down she got. It is so much more fun to hunt with a dog that knows what and how to work and hunt. 3 am she was asking to go again. I have to work today, maybe after work we can go again. | |||

sounds awesome. Have a few guns, but never been hunting. It's great your dog loves it so much. Is getting ammo a problem for you too?

No I have no trouble getting ammo so far. I try and keep my stock up anyway. I try and buy one year ahead. As for the dog there is nothing she wants more then to go hunting. She does not know the word give up. she has gone as far as 300 yards on her own to find a bird. |

Opening weekend is over. The dogs did their part. We missed a few birds, just did not have many chances, not a lot of birds.

The first half of the season is slow most years. We got 5 ducks so those would be pars and 2 geese those would be birdies, We had a great time and looking forward to a very good year. |

Nothing like hunting with a dog. As a kid I always dreamed of two things. One was flyfishing for trout. I've flyfished from here to Maine and Michigan out to Montana, Colorado and a few places in between. The second was sitting in a duck blind, hunting over decoys with a retreiver. I've spent many cold mornings doing just that thing. And more hours than I can even think of in a dove field blasting away with dogs working hard! I still have a retriever and I suppose I always will. This one is no hunter though, she thinks she's a human. Goes to work with me everyday, smells like a poodle and sleeps in the bed with us...I've come a long way from a good ole wet smelly dog in a duck blind! LOL! But man what fun we had and the shells we went through in the dove fields...
